The classes within the Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Band Program require students to achieve musical excellence. Students learn to cultivate skills such as intonation, awareness of blend and balance, accuracy in keeping beat, attention to style, and total immersion in reading music notation. Along with music specific skills our classes also help students build connections and trust in others, while developing each student’s self-confidence and self-motivation. In this program, myself and the students depend on each other to create meaningful and fulfilling performances, and because of this we all become part of a team that is trying to achieve a common goal. The amount of time we spend together in and out of school to achieve this common goal simulates the amount of time we spend with our own families, and because of this, our program acts as a student's second family. Due to all of this, the APW Band Program is so much more than just a band, it's a family.
